5th grade gets a visit from Auburn University Criminology Dept.

5th graders got the chance to solve a mystery!  Story: After moving into a new house and deciding to remodel, the owners found some remains that were very old.  (They looked like human remains!!)  So....They called in forensic teams and from the evidence they were able to obtain, they were able to find out who these remains belonged to.  Students were able to go from station to station and gather clues from the remains to determine which of these three missing people it could have been:   (of course they are replicated remains, for sanitary reasons :)

Auburn University professors and students helped us solve clues in each of the different centers.  Here are a few of the centers and what we learned along the way:

At this center we discuss the trauma marks that were found on the skull.

This center determined the height of the deceased.

This center determined if the skull found was a male or female.

This center focused on telling whether the remains were human or animal jaws.

Fingerprint station

This station uncovered several other bones and what they told us.
